Shrug Off the Doubt

I'm an impulsive shopper. And I'm on Instagram a lot, so when four or five photos go by with blazers in them, you know this girl is going to be buying one real soon. And buy one, I did.

There's no denying I really appreciate this blazer. A pop of red, the classic checked print... but the shoulder pads. Man, the shoulder pads. Both a love and hate thing. When I first tried this on, I have to admit, I was pretty aware of my already-broad shoulders suddenly looking even broader. (It's a personal trait of mine that I've always been on the self-conscious side of.) But man, did I want to like the look. Or, I already did, but this little insecurity was getting in the way. I tried tying my hair up, I tried long dangly earrings; still, the shoulders.

So I let it hang on my rack. And then, (also impulsively) I decided to wear it one day and off came the tag and you know that's the point of no return. Maybe at first, I was doubtful; in the end, it's not so much that it grew on me, but that I grew a little bit myself. I'm a sentimental gal, and if blazers can have meanings, then by all means, let's meaning the hell out of it. It turned to be a reminder—a reminder that I can indeed wear whatever I want, shoulder pads and all.

Shrug off the doubt: try it, be surprised, grow. And, I guess, make room in your closet.
