VARIATIONS, PT. III
My third and final variation of this black t-shirt dress and transitioning it into the fall is based on playing with lengths. Yes, I am layering another pant underneath the dress, but unlike the laidback vibe of tossing some distressed skinnies on, I think layering some cropped wide-leg trousers (gauchos, culottes, whatever you wish) is unexpected, and paired with the looser dress the two create a lot of movement--this adds so much more dimension to the ensemble. Not to mention I've now found a way to transition these gaucho pants into the cooler weather, too!
When I first tried this outfit on after having brainstormed my variations, I turned to Graham and I said, "Doesn't my torso look ridiculously long?" And it's true, this outfit, being composed of one long layer over another even longer layer, flirts with proportions a little, but as soon as I added some height with these boots (a strong member of the black boot collection), I was sold. This is definitely an outfit I consider a step toward a new direction for me, but as with all things that work out, it just clicked. I love finding all these new variations in my closet.
